Hauke Kite-Powell observes LNG tanker spot rates have fallen below $30,000 per day in January as a significant shift of US exports from Asia to Europe, which began in December, sharply reduced tonne-mile demand. Marsoft expects rates to recover by late in the second quarter; but a more durable shift of US exports to Europe, to make up for lower Russian pipeline supplies, could have durable negative effects on LNG tanker rates.
